What to expect from your first coaching session

Coaching is not therapy, consulting, or mentoring. It is a structured partnership built entirely around you — your goals, your thinking, and your next steps. As your coach, Will does not hand you a plan or tell you what to do. He asks the right questions and creates the space for you to find your own clarity and move forward with confidence.

The ICF, the global standard-setting body for the coaching profession, defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." That is the experience you can expect here.

Here is what a typical first session looks like:

• 1. You share what is on your mind — a decision, a challenge, a goal, or something you have been trying to work through. There is no wrong starting point.

• 2. Together you get clear on what you actually want — not just what the problem is, but what a better outcome would look like for you.

​

• 3. Will asks powerful questions that help you see the situation differently and surface answers you already have but have not yet been able to articulate.

​

• 4. You leave with real clarity and at least one concrete next step — not homework assigned by someone else, but a commitment you chose.

Sessions are completely confidential. People come for all kinds of reasons — career decisions, leadership growth, stress, family dynamics, financial pressure, and personal goals. These conversations do not have to be religious in nature. Will works with people across every background and belief system, and you set the agenda every time you meet.

This is a free benefit available to all CCC employees. No referral needed. Sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes and can be held in person or over Zoom.
